there ain't nothing more cowboy than a ghost town

Writin’
there ain’t nothing more cowboy than a ghost town
they settled out west
searching for gold. searching for opportunity. searching for an escape I don’t know.
we build and build.
there’s a sort of hope in buildin’ I guess.
like we got a future to look forward to.
the cowboy is a ruin.
he’s a memory.
maybe a cultural fiction.
we treat him like he’s strong but the cowboy is weak and I hate him for it.
he got replaced. he died. he moved to the suburbs.

he abandoned what he built.
now it’s a ghost town.
some people like to explore these places.
but it makes me feel sad and sort of lost and confused at myself.

why am I so angry?
I hate the cowboy and I hate the ghost town they make me so fucking mad why did he build this place just to leave it why did he have hope and a future only to abandon the future and now we live in the future for real and it’s not what he built it’s ABANDONED IT’S NOTHING THERE’S NOBODY HERE ANYMORE.
DON’T BUILD ME A TOWN ONLY TO LEAVE IT ROT COWBOY.
FUCK YOU

somehow I arrive at this place and it’s already too late.
I see what once was and I know what I can never have and maybe it’s okay the cowboy built a town for now.
he hoped for the future and that gets you through today.
but I have to live with the pain of seeing and standing somewhere and knowing I can never be there.
I know why I hate the ghost town.
I hate the ghost town because I’ve built my fair share of them.
and I was the one who walked away and moved to the suburbs.
sorry cowboy
